Little Tree - Green Building Materials and Eco-Friendly Home Supply Center

Hello... here we are again “Little Tree” your Eco-Friendly Building and Home Supply Centre that is getting closer to completion at Sunset Road in Kuta Bali. Today we want to inform you about another Frog exciting product that we will be offering to plastic manufacturers in Bali and the rest of Indonesia. A revolutionary oxo-degradable plastic additive named d2w.

d2w Technology

Today we want to support and go further to an article in the last edition of Bali Advertiser, published by our friends from R.O.L.E. Foundation, who are sharing the same vision towards a better environment. His article revealed once again about the plastic problem Bali is facing, and everyone who lives on this island knows that this is a very serious problem if we don't take corrective action.

Plastic is fantastic... For sure it is a familiar component of modern living, used in all sorts of packaging, household and commercial applications. Whilst the benefits of low cost, low energy consumption in the manufacturing off, light weight, strength, imperviousness to gas and water, transparency, seal ability, and printability plastics are highly regarded, the very strength , efficiency and durability which makes plastic such a useful and economic material can be a major problem when disposal is required. “Little Tree” is proud to be the distributor in Indonesia of the progressive and earth friendly d2w Technology from “Symphony”.

What is d2w Technology?

d2w is the name for an additive that makes plastic oxo-biodegradable; difficult name ha… It simply means that the plastic will breakdown to its basic components of hydrogen, oxygen and carbon after a while and does not stay behind for centuries before it degrades. . The technology is based on a very small amount of pro-degrading additive being introduced into the manufacturing process of plastic products, thereby changing the behavior of the plastic. Degradation begins when the programmed-service life is over (as controlled by the additive composition). Oxo-biodegradable plastics degrade, then biodegrade, on land or at sea, in the light or the dark, in heat or cold, in whatever timescale is required, leaving NO fragments NO methane and NO harmful residues. Oxo-bio is made from a byproduct of oil refining which used to be wasted, so nobody is importing extra oil to make it ;-)

How does it work

The plastic does not just disappear in thin air, but will be consumed by bacteria and fungi after the d2w additive has reduced the molecular structure to a level which permits living micro-organisms access to the carbon and hydrogen. It is therefore “biodegradable.” This process continues until the plastic has biodegraded to nothing more than CO2, water, and humus. It does not leave fragments of petro-polymers in rivers, lakes and oceans, oxo-biodegradable polyethylene films float on the surface of the water, where they are oxidized with consequent fragmentation and biodegradation. Conditions in the ocean are ideal for oxo-biodegradation. There is plenty of oxygen and ultraviolet light, there are plenty of micro-organisms, and the wind and waves subject the material to stress. This does not mean that we have to throw our oxo-biodegradable plastic in the ocean but shows us simply the ways the plastic degrades. Those islands of plastic floating in the ocean would no longer be there is they were manufactured with the d2w additives.

When does plastic starts to degrade when d2w technology is added?

The length of time it takes for plastic to oxo-biodegrade can be “programmed” at the time of manufacture and can be as little as a few months or as much as a few years. They are protected from degradation by special antioxidants until ready for use, and storage-life will be extended if the products are kept in cool, dark conditions, so NO more floating plastic in the oceans and on land if we use oxo-biodegradable plastic products. Starch based plastics are also good but there is the extra issue of the farming land and its produce devoted to making plastic / fuel instead of food to feed people with , for example corn being too expensive for food in Mexico because of it being used for ethanol.

If you care for Bali and the environment and you want to use oxo-biodegradable plastic for your shop our business or you want to contribute helping us moving towards a better environment please contact us at the email address below so we can inform you more about our vision and this great product…
